Another popular unit of the old English money was known as guinea. A guinea was equivalent to a pound and a shilling, or 21 shillings. Its symbol was either g or gn. Transactions that were considered gentlemanly were paid in guineas instead of pounds. Guinea coins were used for legal tender and were made of gold.

Other terms or units that were used in the old English money system include coppers (penny coins) and groat (four pennies).
